Splitting of the Jacobi operator for extremal submanifolds with higher codimension

We consider a Riemannian manifold with an embedded submanifold, which is extremal for some energy functional. For these embeddings, we compare the Jacobi operators corresponding to the different energies of the embedding, namely the area functional, the Dirichlet energy and the elastic energy for some elastic material. Since the vector bundle splits into tangential and normal vectors the Jacobi operator may be decomposed into 4 parts. We want to examine these splittings.
