I will introduce a synthetic approach to Lorentzian geometry akin to Alexandrov- or CAT(k)-spaces in metric geometry. The role of the metric is taken over by the time separation function, in terms of which all basic notions are formulated. The goal is to have a notion of curvature (bounds) even if the underlying space is non-smooth or not a manifold. The motivation comes from General Relativity and in particular from the need to handle spacetimes of low regularity. Finally, I will outline applications in form of a singularity theorem and an inextendibility result.
