Spectral butterflies are numerical visualizations of parameter-dependent Schrödinger-type operators, most prominently the Hofstadter butterfly. Their striking fractality has drawn significant attention, reflecting a deep interplay between dynamical structures and spectral theory. In this talk, we explore methods for analyzing these intricate spectra, focusing on the Hofstadter and Kohmoto butterflies. We also present recent progress, including developments related to the Dry Ten Martini Problem.
