Abstracts:
Véronique Fischer (Bath): Sub-Riemannian quantum limits.
I will start with a short discussion on semi-classical analysis to introduce the concept of quantum limits. Then I will present an overview of subRiemannian geometry and the recent developments of spectral geometry in this context, especially regarding quantum limits.
Lashi Bandara (Deakin Uni, Melbourne): Functional calculus, garnished with a little geometry.
Functional calculus, broadly speaking, is the ability to construct a function of a matrix or more generally, a linear operator. Starting with the Fourier series, I will present functional calculus, in particular the so-called "H infinity" functional calculus, motivated through geometric questions and applications. I will showcase a few problems which have been solved through this functional calculus and briefly touch on extensions motivated through interesting geometric questions.
