Felix Medwed (Potsdam)

This is the first of two talks about aspects of Carnot groups, following the book "Metric Lie Groups" by Le Donne (2024). We will however recall the construction of the smallest closed Lie subalgebra and Lie group as presented in my previous talk and look at an open problem stated in the book "An introduction to infinite dimensional geometry" by Alexander Schmeding (2022) about the projective limit of the truncated Lie groups equipped with the Carnot-Carathéodory metric. This shall serve as the motivation to take the step into the realm of Carnot groups, where I shall provide some background, the general definition and some properties of them.
