In the real world, knotted and tangled materials are often less flexible than ropes and are not as simple as closed curves, which are the main objects studied in classical knot theory. Therefore, new models beyond closed curves are needed, and geometric features such as thickness and symmetry become relevant. I will give a talk on these topics.
