In this talk I will present a mathematically rigorous framework for perturbative quantum field theory. This framework, called perturbative algebraic quantum field theory (pAQFT), combines the idea of locality going back to Haag and Kastler with the powerful techniques of homological algebra and formal deformation quantisation. In contrast to some other existing approaches, it is intrinsically Lorentzian (rather then Euclidean) and works very well on a very large class of spacetimes (gloablly hyperbolic ones). Applications include QED, the Standard Model and even effective quantum gravity.
