Institutskolloquium
Graphon Models for Inhomogeneous Random Graphs
Olga Klopp (Paris), Nicolas Verzelen (Montpellier)
Ammar Al-Saedy, Claudia Grabs, Heiko Etzold
We invite undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty to this semester’s PhD day. Three PhD students of our institute will present their topics and fields of research in a 30 minute talk. In the coffee breaks in between, we will elect new PhD respresentatives.

A variational primitive of a differential form
In this talk we specify the Dirichlet to Neumann operator related to the Cauchy problem for the gradient operator with data on a part of the boundary. To this end, we consider a nonlinear relaxation of this problem which is a mixed boundary problem of Zaremba type for the p-Laplace equation.

Geometry of elastic shells
Similarly to soap films, which form minimal surfaces, elastic shells
yield geometrically interesting surfaces. For elastic shells, it is in
general not the area that becomes minimal, but rather the stress energy.
The shape of the surface depends on the chosen material, specified by a
constitutive function that determines the dependence of the stress
tensor on the strain tensor. In this talk I will present the theory
leading to the equations of an elastic surface in equilibrium.
